Hill climbing; short but intense.
A flat out effort up a hill with a number pinned on your back is a level of suffering you never knew existed but yet soon discover just how hard you can really push yourself and find your absolute limit - and this is something I've learnt to love.
The HC season came straight off the back of a busy road race calendar for me. Seeing everyone wrap up for the year and celebrate their off-season, I was getting ready for another world of pain.
This year was my first time giving the hills a proper good go. I dabbled last year, finishing 19th on The Struggle National Champs 2023, but this year I made it a goal to finish top 10.
After finishing the 2024 road season strong, I was confident the hills were going to be a blast and this year I made the effort to travel further afield to mix things up a little with different competition. I took a win at Crown Point and set a new course record on Mill Lee Road, and then quite possibly the pinnacle of my season; taking the win at Monsal.
I went on to win the North East HC series and knowing that Nationals were going to be in the region this year, I was surrounded by local support and they didn't disappoint...
The National Champs blew me away. Having so many people cheering you on, a wall of noise, the crowds were spilling out onto the road ahead, it was deafening, and by far, the best support I've experienced.
I'm a strong believer that the crowds will carry you, make you go deeper and find those extra watts. And with a strong finish on the climb, I claimed 5th overall; a result I was very happy with, exceeding my own expectations! This result contributed to winning the team prize, and I was immensely proud of the girls for their efforts for us to claim the title.
I've taken great pleasure representing FTP throughout the hill climb season after joining the team at the back end of this year, and this title win is a very well deserved trophy for their cabinet to round off the season.
After 7 hard fought rounds the team are victorious at the British team cup ,
Racing a series of events is always a tough one when we put so much into allowing our riders to chase their own ambitions rather than just the teams targets.
that said everyone did their part over every round , riders sacrificed their own race to support the team and chase the overall result
Caitlin picked up her own and the teams first win in huge style at the first round of the series , getting in the brake away Caitlin sprinted to a great result in a super strong field of riders to set us on our way
Floren took our second series win with a great early sprint in the bunch and held it to the line. this was the point the team really believed we could be contenders for the other all title
The last 2 rounds we went in with a full plan of what we needed to do to achieve our target
after having our lead cut right own we we went out at Duncan Merry wines road race ready to attack and prove we wanted the result , we left with a 63 point lead to take us into the final round
We had a plan now to stick to it , two riders went up the road which was perfect for us as they would mop up the big points, with 2 laps to go Katherine set up by some great team work got launched off the front and put in a huge effort to breakaway from the group , coming home 3rd and helping secure the title
Throughout the race our aim was to dominate and control the race to suit our riders. We used our climbers to string out the peloton up and over the climbs and attacked to try and form breakaways.
With 5 riders within the top 20 and our first four riders counting for the team cup points finishing in 4th, 8th, 13th and 16th, we extended our lead in the Team Cup with one round to go!
One of our sponsors, Steve, of Tranquillo cycling came over to support us before, during and after our race! We chose to wear our 'Egalite pour les Femmes' t-shirts from his brand! We would highly recommend!
We held our own in the humidity and heat as this race finished in a bunch sprint. Rosie came away with a brilliant 15th place which helps the team maintain first place in the standings.... Not many race to go!
A brutal road race in Oxfordshire, where a lot of the riders live. On the last ascent of Edge Hill, a small group formed at the front, with Anna Boniface included and gaining a brilliant 11th place! The rest of our riders were consistent and showed our depth, all in the top 30. We are climbing the Team Cup rankings slowly!
A brilliant win from our very own Floren takes us into the lead in the series! The final lap saw a long-range attack and then a reduced bunch sprint with a 500 meter climb to the line. WELL DONE FLOREN!
This round we had another strong team our - Caitlin, Viv, Claire N, Harriet , Rosie and Becky. Start as we mean to go on was our motto! We had a mixed bag as there were a few crashes - caitlin worked hard to pull the break of 4 back but it just didn't happen. The new Ale kit looking brilliant though and we are hoping we can claw back some points next round as we now are 3rd in the Team Cup.
The Race started with alot of aggressive attacks that split the field early , a strong group go away at the front after some early crashes along with the pace split the groups apart.
Caitlin made the main split with Becky and Claire just behind
Caitlin attacked in the now select group at the front a few times in the last lap trying to get those extra yards that would get the result , a big attack just as the group turned right into the racecourse at Goodwood was brave but Caitlin managed to hold it to the line and claim a well deserved victory
FTP racing left round one topping the team standings ,with a full team out for the next race we will be looking to hold onto that lead and try and build on it ,
Battle on the beach saw the team of Louise Hart , and Harriet Evans and Lilie Sanders take on super tough conditions with Louise taking 21st overall , Harriet 23rd and lilie 26th
Marie-louise took to the Onion Dynamo race and came home strong in the second group on the road in 12th
Mathilde raced the multi stage Tour of Malta , with multiple second place finishes and 2 odd place overall on GC it proved a great tour and well earned result
Caitlin and Lilie took to the second round of the national road race series.
Caitlin coming away with a brilliant 4th place on the day and really showing her potential as a road racer
LouiseHart raced the 3rd round of the CTT classic series , taking an awesome female road bike win
Floren and Laura Raced round 1 of the ORRL , with Laura in a 2 rider brake Floren worked in the larger group, laura raced to a great 2nd place finish with Floren leading home the rest taking 3rd on the line
Just Wow - National champs did not disappoint, we loved every second , rubbing shoulders with world tour riders and the best UK talent.
Lilie did us incredibly proud on the Friday night with a very strong display in the Crit race , ensuring spirits where high going into the Road Race on Sunday.
Viv Unfortunately missed the early kick and large group getaway , with Lilie settling into a large group
super strong super active and a great race brain, make Viv a key team member to help execute the team plan
Hills or a sprint Rosie can hold her own anywhere, we are excited to watch Rosie progress in 2023
Another strong climber , looks to make moves happen and support the team push or be in that key breakaway
Impressed massively in 2022in Clare's strength and willingness to work,Clare will be a essential part of opening opportunities for the team
A specialist sprinter with excellent bike skills means Sasha can always be in the mix on race day
Claire is a excellent asset to the team, both for the work she's willing to put in but also a secret weapon to have a go at plan B
A top quality rider with experience and the ability to make things happen in the pack, a rider ready to take any opportunity presented or simply make her own
Multi Discipline multi skilled rider, Jo will excel with a strong team network around her and help support the team targets
Another of our super strong super adaptable riders for 2023,Sian will fit so well with the team and thrive on working in a strong unit
